  World Bank delegation calls on Mayor Karachi.  
  Mayor Karachi Wasim Akhtar said all possible support and cooperation will be provided for any plan and implementation of uplift projects of Karachi. All elected representatives including district chairmen working for solution of city problems despite of facing hurdles in it. City’s infrastructure has to be saved without delay from further deterioration. He expressed these views while talking to a delegation of World Bank which led by senior financial sector specialist Namoos Zaheer called on him in his office to discuss with him the World Bank mission’s plan for developing Karachi’s urban infrastructure. Others who accompanied her include the program leader Gabi Afram, lead financial sector specialist Marius Vismantas, financial sector specialist Shanthi Devakaran, Ahmed Rustum, Arnaud Dornel, public private partnership specialist Aijaz Ahmed and Rafey Khan whereas Municipal Commissioner Dr. Syed Saif-ur-Rehman was also present during the meeting along with the advisor to Mayor Farhat Khan, chairman finance committee Nadeem Hidayat Hashmi, senior director coordination Masood Alam and other senior officers of KMC. Mayor Karachi on this occasion nominated Municipal Commissioner Dr. Syed Saif-ur-Rehman as focal person for coordination with the World Bank Mission regarding development plan for Karachi. He said land ownership in Karachi was with different organizations like cantonment boards; KPT, Pakistan Railway and KMC control 43 percent of total land. He said in order to save the government land from encroachments, it is essential to use this land for such projects which could provide maximum benefit and facilities to people of Karachi. He said we have taken measures to remove all encroachments from KMC land and this will continue till removal of all such encroachments. He said KMC being the oldest and major municipal organization in Karachi have lot of responsibility for providing better civic amenities to citizens in each and every area of the city. Karachi has different development plan then other cities of the country as people from all parts of Pakistan come and live here therefore its development plan needs to be prepared more carefully and while taking all aspects of city population into consideration. The members of delegation informed Mayor that city of Karachi have priority in the development plan of World Bank for the region. An estimated 10 billion dollars will be required in next ten years for bringing improvement in Karachi’s infrastructure, water sanitation and transport system. Mayor Karachi welcomed the World Bank’s development plan and assured them all possible cooperation in this connection.
