  Mayor Karachi inspect dewatering works after heavy rains.

  Mayor Karachi Wasim Akhtar paid a detailed visit of different areas of the city after heavy rains on Thursday to review and inspect the situation and dewatering works. He was accompanied by the MNA Abdul Wasim, MPA Faisal Sabzwari, Jamal Ahmed, Deputy Mayor Dr. Arshad Abdullah Vohra, Chairman DMC Central Rehan Hashmi, Vice Chairman Shakir Ali, Chairman DMC East Moeed Anwer and concerned municipal officers. Mayor Karachi in his six hour long visit went to Nazimabad, North Nazimabad, F.B Area, Tahir Villa and Landi Kotal Roundabout, Nipa Chowrangi, Hassan Square and Rain Emergency Centre at Kashmir Road. He also directed KMC and DMC officials to speed up dewatering works. While talking to media representatives during this visit, Mayor Karachi said this was no ordinary rain but extra ordinary one which affected whole city. Local Government leadership doing its job and we will be among the people till the situation gets normal. He said it was responsibility of Sindh Government to sit for once and streamline such issues and bring improvement in the disposal of city sewage and garbage system. He said despite of extra ordinary rains all municipal officers and elected representatives were working on roads with their all energy, however rain water would take some time to be drained out. 9 out of 13 dewatering pumps were presently in operation and the drainage process was being carried on. Mayor Karachi said the chocking points in storm water drains were the main cause of hurdles in swift water flow as these channels were already filled with garbage and other waste. He said still we are doing our job by utilizing all available resources so that city roads could be cleared of rain water as soon as possible. Mayor Karachi also imposed state of emergency in the concerned departments and directed the officers and staff of such departments including those deputed in Rain Emergency Centre to remain on their duty during Eid ul Azha.
